Kelly Russell

The Chronicles of Uncle Mose - Tales from Pigeon Inlet..
- Owner & Operator of Pigeon Inlet Productions, an independent CD & Cassette label dedicated to the preservation and promotion of Nfld.Traditional Music.
- Original member of landmark groups Figgy Duff & The Wonderful Grand Band
- Worked closely with legendary fiddlers Rufus Guinchard & Emile Benoit, learning, transcribing, publishing, teaching & performing their music.
- Awarded The Nfld & Lab Arts Council Award for Music (1987).
- Worked extensively in Radio & Television for over 20 years.
- An accomplished mutli-instrumentalist: experienced and skillful on Fiddle, Mandolin, Bouzouki, Concertina, Dulcimer, Tin Whistle & Celtic Harp.
Kelly Russell will visit Your School to give a 1 Hour Presentation of Newfoundland Music & Culture.
Presentation includes:
- Introduction & performance on a variety of rarely heard folk instruments
- Discussion of the role and relevance of folk music, past & present
- Presentation & Discussion of the music of Rufus Guinchard & Emile Benoit.
- Introduction and performance of a story by Uncle Mose (Ted Russell).
- Demonstration of recordings which present traditional music in a contemporary setting that young people can relate to, enjoy and appreciate.
Based on a concern for the preservation of Newfoundland's culture and way of life we solicit the interest and support of your school in bringing this important presentation to your students. Kelly is interested in sharing his knowledge and experience with your students in an effort to instill in them a respect and appreciation for our unique culture and history. Equally experienced and comfortable in student/teacher and classroom/stage settings, Kelly relates easily and develops a great rapport with pre-teen and teenage students.
Ideal for Education Week or any other week. Presentation should take place during school hours and in a setting both spacious and intimate (library, lunchroom, large classroom or the Gym). Geared towards Grades 4 - 12. All equipment is supplied.
